Keep the Instagram content that matters
A saved link and a downloaded file serve different purposes. A bookmark takes you back to Instagram; a file can be opened on your device later. This Instagram downloader helps you request available public media and choose which items to keep.
Start with a post you own or have permission to save. You can request videos, images, and related files without installing a browser extension. Public visibility alone does not guarantee a download, and it does not grant permission to republish the creator’s work.
How to save from Instagram
Three steps from a public link to a file on your device.
Copy the post link
Open the individual Instagram post or Reel. Use its sharing or options menu to copy the link. For a profile photo, copy the profile URL instead.
Paste and choose
Paste the link above, choose the type of file you need, and select Find media. Wait while the service checks what Instagram makes available.
Preview and download
Review the returned files, then save the items you want. Download them within one hour, and reuse content only when you have permission.
Instagram downloader features
Understand what each option retrieves, and where access limits apply.
Instagram audio downloader
Save the sound contained in an available video by choosing Audio before submitting its link. The tool extracts that track into an M4A file. It does not retrieve a separate music catalogue, restore muted sound, or unlock music restricted in your region. A silent video cannot produce an audio download.
Instagram thumbnail downloader
A cover can help you recognise a saved Reel without playing it. Choose Thumbnail to request the image supplied with an accessible post. The returned cover may differ from a frame inside the video. Save the supplied picture at its available dimensions; the tool does not manufacture a higher-resolution version.
Instagram video downloader
Paste a direct link to a public video post and choose Post & Reel. When Instagram supplies the media, the results show the available MP4 files. Videos can be up to 30 minutes long, within the total download limit. Availability depends on the post and the connection from our server.
Instagram photo downloader
Download an accessible single photo or select individual images from a carousel. Each returned item gets its own preview and save button, so you can keep just the pictures you need. The service supports up to 20 items and 250 MB per request. Photos retain the format delivered by Instagram.
Instagram Reels downloader
Use the link to one Reel, rather than the Reels browsing page. Saving the returned MP4 avoids recording your screen and keeps the video’s available dimensions. ConvertFoto adds no watermark, but existing text, branding, and overlays remain in the source. A public Reel can still be unavailable to automated requests.
Older Instagram video links
If you have an older link containing /tv/, paste it into the same field. The downloader checks whether that individual video is still accessible. An old bookmark does not guarantee that a file remains available: the owner may have removed the post, changed its audience, or replaced the original content.
Instagram Story downloads
Use our Instagram Story Viewer & Downloader to check available public Stories by username, profile URL, or direct Story link. Preview and save returned photos and videos. Stories can expire or require login; the tool does not retrieve private content, accept login cookies, or recover expired items.
Instagram Highlight downloads
Highlights collect Stories on a profile, but a Highlight link is not an ordinary photo or Reel link. This downloader does not retrieve Highlight collections. If the same material is published as an accessible post, use that individual post URL. A profile’s visibility does not guarantee access to all of its content.
Instagram profile picture downloader
Choose Profile photo and paste a public profile URL to request its available display picture. This retrieves a single avatar, not the account’s posts or picture history. The source image may be smaller than expected, and Instagram may restrict the request. No private profile access or enlarged original is promised.
Instagram caption downloader
Choose Caption to save the text supplied with an accessible post as a UTF-8 text file. A copy button is also available when the browser permits clipboard access. Hashtags and line breaks stay with the text. Review attribution and permission before republishing someone else’s words; copying a caption does not transfer ownership.
A practical Instagram saver
Simple steps
Work from one post link, then choose the files you want to save.
No added watermark
The tool leaves existing source artwork and overlays intact.
No visitor account
Start without creating a ConvertFoto account or sharing login credentials.
Across your devices
Use the same page in a modern mobile or desktop browser.
Clear fair-use limits
Visible limits help explain when to wait or choose a smaller post.
Available source quality
Files keep their supplied quality. Missing detail is not reconstructed.
Make the saved file work for you. Use the photo editor to crop an image you may edit, the image converter to change its format, or the image compressor to reduce its size. Keep a copy of the original before editing.
ConvertFoto is independent of Instagram and Meta. Requests stop when content is unavailable; this service does not bypass logins, privacy settings, or regional restrictions.
Frequently asked questions
Help with supported links, downloads, and unavailable content.
What does this Instagram downloader support?
It can request accessible public posts, Reels, older /tv/ links, and public profile pictures. Options include media files, thumbnails, captions, and audio extracted from retrieved videos. Use the separate Instagram Story Viewer for available public Stories. Highlights, live broadcasts, private content, and full-account archives are not supported.
Is the Instagram downloader free to use?
ConvertFoto does not charge visitors to use this page. Fair-use limits apply: six requests per visitor per hour, two active jobs at a time, and up to 20 items or 250 MB per request. Server availability and Instagram restrictions can also affect a download.
Do I need to sign in to Instagram?
The tool does not request your Instagram password, session cookies, or account access. It attempts public requests from our server. If Instagram requires authentication for a particular link, the request stops with an explanation; being able to view it while signed in is not enough.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac?
Use a modern browser with JavaScript enabled on your phone, tablet, or computer. The page adapts to the screen. Download behaviour depends on the browser: some files save immediately, while others open a preview with a Save or Share option.
Can I download from a private account?
No. This tool does not provide private-account access or bypass an audience restriction. It also cannot retrieve deleted posts or recover expired Stories. Ask the owner to share a file directly if the content is unavailable through a public link.
How do I save all the photos in a carousel?
Paste the link to the individual carousel post and choose Post & Reel. After processing finishes, save each returned item using its own Download button. Items keep their order. The service does not combine an album into a ZIP or scrape an entire profile.
Where do downloaded Instagram files go?
Check your browser’s download list first. On a computer, the destination is often the Downloads folder. On a phone, look in Files or your browser’s downloads area. A saved video does not necessarily appear in Photos or Gallery until you import it there.
Why did my download fail or expire?
Check that the link identifies a supported post and still opens normally. Instagram may require login, limit requests, or block the server. Completed files expire after one hour. If a link has expired, submit the original post again; repeated retries cannot override an access restriction.
Have a link ready?
Choose what you need, check the returned files, and save the content you have permission to use.
