How to download a YouTube video

Copy and paste the video link

On YouTube, open the video or Short and choose Share, then Copy link. Paste it into the YouTube video URL field above.

Choose quality and prepare

Select up to 360p, 720p, or 1080p, then press Prepare download. Keep the page open while the video and its available audio are prepared.

Save the MP4 file

When preparation finishes, press Save MP4. Wait for your browser to finish downloading before opening the file.

Download YouTube videos and Shorts as MP4

Paste a link to an individual public video: a YouTube watch link, a Shorts link, or a youtu.be share link. ConvertFoto saves an MP4 video with its available audio, ready to open in a compatible video player.

Shorts keep their original shape, including vertical video. This tool does not convert video to MP3, download playlists, or process live streams. Each download is limited to 30 minutes and 250 MB.

Choose 360p, 720p, or 1080p

Your selection is a maximum. ConvertFoto chooses the best compatible MP4 video available within that quality; it cannot add detail that is missing from the original. If a source is only available at a lower quality, the saved video will use that lower quality.

Which quality should you choose?
Maximum quality	When to choose it
360p	For a smaller file, limited storage, or a slower connection.
720p	A useful starting point for everyday viewing on a phone or laptop.
1080p	For more detail when a compatible source is available and the file fits the limit.

Duration, motion, and the source encoding all affect file size. A video shorter than 30 minutes can still exceed 250 MB. If that happens, try 720p or 360p; choosing 1080p does not guarantee that the file will fit.

Save videos on iPhone, Android, and computer

Prepare the video above, then use Save MP4. The browser handles the final download, so the destination depends on your browser and its settings.

iPhone with Safari

Tap Save MP4 and confirm the download if Safari asks.
Check Safari's Downloads button for progress.
Open Files, then Browse, then iCloud Drive and Downloads. If you changed Safari's download location, check On My iPhone or your chosen folder instead.

The file is saved in Files; it may not appear automatically in Photos.

Android with Chrome

Tap Save MP4 and confirm the save location if prompted.
Open Chrome's menu and choose Downloads. With a bottom address bar, swipe up on it to find Downloads.
Wait for completion, then tap the MP4 to open it. You can also look in your phone's Files app.

Windows, Mac, or Linux

Click Save MP4 and choose a folder if your browser asks.
Open your browser's Downloads list to check progress and open the file.
In Chrome, use Show in folder to locate the saved MP4. Your chosen download folder may differ from the default Downloads folder.

Troubleshoot a download

The link is not supported: Copy the link to one public YouTube video or Short. Channel pages, playlists, private or restricted videos, and live streams cannot be downloaded here.
Preparation failed or is taking too long: Keep the page open and read the error message. If the video exceeds 250 MB, choose a lower quality. Videos over 30 minutes are not supported. If the service is temporarily busy or YouTube blocks the request, try again later; repeated clicks will not make preparation faster.
The download link expired: Temporary files are deleted from our server after one hour. Paste the original YouTube link again and prepare a new download. An MP4 already saved to your device is not deleted when the server link expires.
The video is ready but the file is missing: Press Save MP4 to start the browser download, then check its Downloads list. A ready video has not been saved to your device until that download finishes.

Does the MP4 include sound?

The MP4 includes the audio available from the source video. ConvertFoto cannot restore sound that is absent from the source. Check your player's volume and mute setting if a downloaded file seems silent.

Can I save a Short without changing its vertical format?

Yes. Use the link to the individual Short. Downloading preserves the source video's shape; it does not crop a vertical Short into a landscape video.

Why is the saved video below the quality I selected?

The setting is a quality ceiling, not a promise of that resolution. A compatible source may only be available at a lower quality. Selecting 1080p cannot turn a lower-quality source into Full HD.

Can I download MP3, 4K, or a full playlist?

This tool currently prepares one MP4 video at a time, up to 1080p, 30 minutes, and 250 MB. MP3 output, 4K downloads, and playlist downloads are not supported.

Why is my video in Files instead of Photos on iPhone?

Safari saves downloaded files to its configured download folder. Open the MP4 in Files. If the share sheet offers Save Video, you can use it to add a copy to Photos; that option depends on the file and device.

Do I need to keep the page open?

Keep it open until preparation finishes and you have pressed Save MP4. Then wait for your browser's download to complete before closing the browser. Preparation alone does not save a file to your device.

Will my downloaded video disappear after one hour?

No. The one-hour limit applies to temporary files on our server. A completed MP4 download remains on your device until you delete it. If you did not save it in time, prepare the YouTube link again.
